WEISBERG Biography |
Marilyn is an emerging, contemporary American Impressionist artist, based in the Chicago area. She has a beautiful and unique style that combines fine detail with colorful, loose, abstract elements -- creating a warm, wonderful, dream-like quality to her work.
As a native Detroiter, Marilyn attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with degrees in psychology and public health, specializing in maternal and child health care. While building an impressive, 25-year career in healthcare, she has been dedicated to creative pursuits and growing as an artist. For hospitals, she combined her talents by writing and illustrating patient-education slide programs and brochures on medical and surgical topics, as well as media for employee training. More recently, she has written and illustrated the opening chapters of a children’s' nook on body parts, called "Kathy Kidney and Friends". Early on, as an independent artist, Marilyn designed and marketed a line of 50 greeting cards, called "Whimerics", with whimsical pen and ink drawings. She did newspaper illustrations for the Detroit News, courtroom illustrations for WDIV-TV, and animated cartoons for TV commercials. Throughout her life, Marilyn has always been drawing and painting -- in acrylics, watercolors, pencils, pen and ink and now oils--her favorite medium,. Her professional interest in mothers and children spills over in her art, which often reflects her love of figures and faces -- both adults and children. Now embracing a fulltime career as an oil painter, Marilyn credits the Main Street Art Academy in Lake Zurich Illinois for enhancing her portrait painting skills and adding greatly to her technique. At Main Street, she studied under a number of talented fine artists, including Frankie Johnson, Susan Plough, Romel de la Torre, Kevin Bielfuss and Kerry Dunn. The Cosmopolitan Fine Arts Gallery is proud to showcase Marilyn Weisberg's art. |
