| SONCO CARRASCO |
|
Sonco Carrasco was born in Acomayo, Cusco, Peru in 1955. At an early age Carrasco moved with his family to the city of Arequipa and continued to live there until he was a teenager. It was the charm of Arequipena’s countryside, combined with the light and the atmosphere of this magical place, that became a strong influence upon Carrasco's passion for landscape painting. This influence is still reflected today through the painstakingly perfected watercolor technique in his art, which received the recognition of his country as well as other countries in the continent. In addition to watercolor, Carrasco has also been working in oil within the same landscape theme and its relation to light and transparency.
Throughout Carrasco's career he has been honored with a significant amount of awards, his highest honor being the National Prize of Watercolors Award in 1984 presented by the North-American Peruvian Cultural Institute. He has also had his work exhibited at numerous private and collective exhibitions in both Peru and abroad.
Carrasco currently resides in Lima where he continues to work on his art, giving priority to oil painting.
