| INGFRIED MORRO |
|
Morro was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1925. His given name is Ingfried Henze, however he has chosen the pen name of "Morro". With a strong background in the fine arts, his formal training began at the Fine Arts Academy located in his native city. He attended this program for several years until interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. Not until Germany recovered from its devastation did Morro have the opportunity to return to painting. At this time he was fortunate to attend the Fine Arts Academy in Munich. Here he studied under the respected professors, Schrinnerer and Gott.
Fascinated with the German Post-Impressionist painters, he looked to their art to see a free and unencumbered style. His own personal technique and visionary designs were directly influenced by these talented Masters, improvising with color and lighting effects. Using his favorite medium of oil on canvas, he experimented with various brushes and the palette knife to achieve the desired results. He strived to achieve texture, fluidity of movement, and strength in the application of oil upon canvas. He developed a definite and recognizable style. The palette knife eventually became his primary tool, preferring its quick action, immediate response and firmness on the canvas. Today, virtually all his paintings are created through the use of the palette knife, brushes coming into play only for the intricate detail and colorful accents.
Morro left Germany after completing his art studies and settled in Tangiers. He lived there for many years, painting the city, its sights and sounds. He reveled in capturing upon canvas the "essence" of a virtually unchanged city since it’s beginning. He developed the "mood, aura and sounds", and ancient traditions of this city in numerous compositions .... from somber to scintillating. Greatly influenced by this stark and barren land, boasting centuries of an ever-evolving culture, Morro transferred his experiences and emotions into his impressionistic art.
While established n Tangiers he exhibited his art in several towns in Germany, as well as in Philadelphia, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Havana, Montreal, Stockholm and London.
Today Morro lives and paints in Verona, Italy. This city too, has influenced his art. Rich and sensuous compositions arise from his imagination, ever glorifying the beauty of nature. Respected and admired worldwide, perhaps most admired are his glorious still lifes and florals, and his totally captivating street scenes - simple, charming and irresistible. Each holds a unique quality that speaks to the heart, mind and soul. Morro is without doubt a connoisseur’s artist, talented in the truest sense of the fine arts.
