Emilio Payes was born in Alcoy, Spain, in 1935. He began his studies of drawing and painting at fourteen years of age.
Payes gives to his paintings great plasticity and relevance, joining perfectly technique and coloring, which succeeds in making a harmonious aggregate of great quality and realism. Primarily he depicted the typical landscapes of Northern Spain and the precarious life of her inhabitants, as well as marine scenes from the stormy Gulf of Biscaye. Since about 1980 the artist directs his main interest to painting city views and he shows highly impressive scenes from his favorite cities, Paris and Venice. |
